When a woman becomes pregnant, a lot changes in her life. A new member of the family, however tiny, always brings confusion. Well, at least it is hard to get bored with the baby.
Pregnancy is a state when a woman needs special care. She needs to eat healthy, exercise - prepare her body for the hardships of carrying a growing child in the womb. What happens to her skin?
The skin of a pregnant woman
Our skin is our visiting card. During pregnancy, the entire body of a woman undergoes changes, which is not indifferent to the appearance of her skin.
The skin of the face
Increased levels of estrogen, progesterone and melanocytes can cause darkening of the skin and mucous membrane areas. This is called hyperpigmentation.
Another common problem is chloasma, a discoloration that usually appears on the face. It is caused by an uneven distribution of melanin. The occurrence of chloasma depends largely on genetic predisposition, but exposure to sunlight can worsen the problem. There are three types of chloasma, based on location:
- central, when lesions appear on the forehead, nose, above the upper lip and chin
- zygomatic, when lesions appear on the cheeks
- mandibular, as the name suggests occurs at the angle of the mandible
As a preventive measure, a high level of sun protection is recommended throughout the pregnancy, even when there is not much sun outside and it seems to be unnecessary.
When the estrogen level increases, the blood vessels dilate. The result, unfortunately, can be vascular lesions, which usually appear on the face, neck or décolleté.
Stretch marks are the biggest problem for pregnant women. This problem does not only affect pregnant women, but they are most commonly associated with them. With weight gain, the skin has to stretch. When the skin can't keep up and we do not support it, stretch marks will appear. At first, they will be noticeably red. Only over time they turn white and eventually turn into pale scars.
As the skin stretches, birthmarks may also enlarge. We urge you to watch them and stay in touch with your dermatologist. The specialist will notice if any of the lesions are worrying, although on the surface they may seem the same as the others.
Skin Care During Pregnancy
The basic element of skin care during pregnancy is to moisturize and make it more elastic. It is worth equipping ourselves with balms and butters, which increase skin elasticity, thus reducing the risk of stretch marks. We should pay particular attention to the stomach area, breasts, thighs and buttocks since all these areas are in greatest need of elasticity as the pregnancy changes the female body. Choose natural cosmetics, preferably designed for pregnant women, combining oiling, moisturizing, regenerating and anti-inflammatory properties.
We know how touchy the subject of cellulite is for women. Therefore, many products have been created to help fight it. They contain substances that accelerate the burning of fatty tissue and it is discouraged to use them during pregnancy. We recommend choosing an alternative - massages.
When we talk about face skincare, two elements are important:
Many women struggle with very dry skin during pregnancy. As you know, dry skin is more prone to showing signs of aging. Therefore, finding a moisturizer and applying it regularly is highly recommended.
- sun protection
The skin of a pregnant woman is sensitive to external factors, it can react to them differently than normal. Due to dryness, it is fragile, and the sun makes this condition even worse. In addition, sunbathing during pregnancy significantly increases the possibility of developing hyperpigmentation. The solution is a sunscreen that is suitable for everyday use - with high effectiveness and a light texture.
Anti-aging during pregnancy
During pregnancy you should carefully choose anti-aging cosmetics. We discourage the use of creams with a high concentration of retinol. This very popular and valued ingredient in cosmetics may have adverse effects during pregnancy.
AHA fruit acids - due to their irritating effect are not recommended. They can intensify the problem of hyperpigmentation.
Instead of acids and retinol for this time it is good to arm your cosmeticbag in a good enzymatic peeling, mask and cream with vitamin C. You can safely return to more invasive active ingredients after the end of breastfeeding.
We get asked very often if any of our products can be used while pregnant or breastfeeding. We answer the same every time - our products have not been tested on pregnant or breastfeeding women, but we do offer products that are safe even without testing. How is this possible? They work only in the outer layer of the skin, they do not penetrate the body, so they can not harm in any way. Let us introduce you to the care we offer:
