Not only can this substance neutralize effectively oxygen-based free radicals but it also protects the cells against their harmful effects. It can also regenerate other anti-oxidants such as lutein and zeaxanthin.
A clinical examination conducted on a group of women and men aged 40 on average demosntrated that the therapy with 6 mg of lycopene daily together with other antioxidants such as lutein, Vitamin E and selenium enhanced significantly the skin look and its parameters such as density (+7%), or thickness (+14%), and reduced its roughness (-37%) when compared to the initial condition only within 12 weeks.
The team led by professor Lademan also examined the concentration of lycopene in the skin of more than 100 women aged approximately 45. It turned out that the skin of the women with the highest concentration of this compound was much smoother and with fewer wrinkles when compared to the skin of women with low concentration of lycopene:
- lycopene, is a strong antioxidant, absorbs free radicals, protects skin cells and collagen fibers against micro-damage, the result of which are fine lines and wrinkles outside,
- rejuvenates the skin, stimulates collagen and elstine production as well as soothes skin aging symptoms.
- stimulates proper diversity of epidermis layers,
- enhances skin color,
- extends life cycle of healthy skin cells.
